Delighted to be participating in my first National Association of Women Artist’s Massachusetts Chapter art event. I will be showcasing a juried work called “Scar’s Den.” This acrylic and collage on canvas work is part of my Coral Reef series. This piece captures a bleached reef. It is named “Scar’s Den” because of my historical relationship with Walt Disney in my prior life as a stock analyst on Wall Street. I was a Disney analyst for many years at CitiGroup and this was a transformative time. “Lion King” was such an iconic moment for Disney as it birthed a multi-billion dollar brand, which I enjoyed regaling at the time. Scar, of course, was the fictional antagonist in the “Lion King” movie. At one stock analyst meeting, the management would give out ‘awards’ to analysts. I was given the “Simba” award because I changed from a negative to positive stance on the company over a period of time — going through what management believed was a metamorphosis — like Simba. :)

The curatorial statement for this exhibition: Our resistance to restrictions could explore the feeling of confinement and the desire for freedom, using imagery of literal and metaphorical chains and limitations to symbolize the restrictions artists face. The artists in this exhibition can avoid or push back against authority, challenge traditions, and express their determination to break free from these limitations — Juried by New York dealer and President, Hollis Taggart of Hollis Taggart Gallery.
